Young Jeezy Debuts At No. 1 On The Charts, Sells 256K In First Week

Hip-Hop superstar Young Jeezy’s The Recession has debuted at the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Top 200, leading the pack of this week’s debuts, which also includes discs by Bad Boy Donnie Klang and actor Terrance Howard.

Jeezy has earned the top position on the charts according to the Nielsen’s SoundScan selling over 256,000 albums of his highly anticipated third Def Jam release. Following up his platinum-selling disc The Inspiration, Jeezy took today’s times and decided to approach the album in a more serious tone.

“The economy is different,” Jeezy told SOHH in a previous interview. “The world is different so I just wanted to address it [and] at the same time still make good music.”

His newest release offers a steady line-up of mega rap stars including Kanye West, Jay-Z, Nas plus R&B crooners Trey Songz and Anthony Hamilton.

Soulful singer Donnie Klang, known for his on-screen talent from Diddy’s “Making The Band 4” reached No. 19, as his first studio album Just a Rolling Stone sold over 22,000 units. Klang recently described the excitement and anxiety he had over his long-awaited effort hitting stores.

“It’s more so that I’m anxious,” he told SOHH. “I can’t wait ‘til it’s really out there and everybody could hear it front to back. I know there’s a lot of fans out there that have been waiting for a long time for it to come out and it’s finally coming.”

The album places Klang alongside hitmakers Mario Winans, The Dream, Channel 7, Diddy and others.

Actor-turned-singer Terrence Howard also debuted his album Shine Through It, which landed at No. 31 on the charts. The Academy Award-nominated performer has reportedly worked on the project since March 2007 and helped his first-ever release sell around 14,000 copies.
