Troy Ave is currently recovering after being shot twice while on his way to visit family in Brooklyn on Christmas Day (Dec. 25).

The rapper, 31, was apparently sitting inside a red Maserati, which can be seen below, at East 91st Street and Linden Boulevard in Brooklyn’s Canarsie section at around 4:20 p.m when the shooting occurred, police say.

The New York Post reports the shooter walked up and opened fired on Troy without warning. While the number of bullets that hit the Brooklyn-bred rhymer are unknown, at least one grazed his head and struck him in the arm. The driver’s side window was blown out due to the gunfire.

Scott E. Leemon, the rapper’s attorney, issued a statement to XXL about the incident. “Tonight, Troy Ave was targeted again…on Christmas. In Brooklyn, going to meet his family for the holiday, he was shot two times. Thankfully, he will survive the second attempt on his life. As we have said from the beginning — he is a victim. We pray for his speedy recovery,” the statement reads.

Police have not released information on the suspect or suspects involved.

The shooting comes just two days after Troy released his new mixtape, White Christmas 4. Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time the “Appreciate Me” MC was shot this year. While at a T.I. concert at Irving Plaza in New York City in May, Troy was shot in the leg. Three other people were shot in the melee including his friend, Ronald “Banga” McPatter, who died due to his injuries.

Video surveillance footage from the venue captured Troy on camera firing a gun at an unknown person. As a result of his involvement in that shooting, he was arrested and charged with attempted murder and four counts of criminal possession of a weapon. Two months later, the rapper was released on $500,000 bond.

Though he’s a free man now, Troy has restrictions on his daily life. Besides wearing an ankle monitor, he cannot leave New York City, he’s not allowed anywhere near concerts, bars, arenas and other music venues, and he’s held to an 11 p.m. curfew. The strict rules on his freedom are detailed on his new track “Loco.”

While he’s on the mend in the hospital as a result of the most recent shooting, 50 Cent visited Troy and shared the moment on Instagram. The photo shows the “All About the Money” rapper sitting in a hospital bed with bandages around his head and right arm as the G-Unit leader stands beside him. “Dope boy Troy all good, Merry Christmas,” Fif wrote.

Our positive thoughts are with Troy Ave on his road to recovery.
