Kingston, Jamaica:- Superstar Shaggy will continue with his commitment to give to the Bustamante Hospital for Children with his third staging of the Shaggy and Friends concert on December 30, 2011 on the lawns of Jamaica House.
Ne-yo and Lauryn Hill will be among the stella line-up performing at the concert. Other confirmed artistes giving of their time and talent are Stephen Marley, Deniece Williams, Chino, Romain Virgo, Assassin aka Agent Sasco, HALF PINT, Wayne Marshall, Tami Chynn, Cocoa Tea and Trinidadian soca artistes Bunji Garlin and Fay-ann Lyons.
This year, the proceeds from the concert will help to furnish the new ICU/cardiac ward working in partnership with chain Of Hope, a group of volunteer doctors and nurses who perform surgeries each year on our children with heart problems. Over 500 children are born each year with heart defects.
Shaggy reiterated his commitment to supporting the Bustamante Hospital for children “we must continue to save our children’s lives and urged the nation to give their support to this cause, no matter how great or small, so we can all keep making a difference.”
To Date the Shaggy and Friends make a difference foundation have raised a total of J$57,000,000 (US$650,000). The Foundation covered the costs for an overall audit to be done on all medical equipment (working or otherwise) at the Bustamante Hospital (June-July, 2011). In addition, they purchased 2 new fully equipped dental chairs for the dental unit at the hospital as their unit was forced closed due to non functional dental chairs. The chairs were delivered and installed earlier this year.
The hit making entertainer’s involvement with the Bustamante Hospital dates back to 2001, when on visiting a friend’s son who had been admitted there, he was sufficiently moved by the needs of the institution to make a resolve to support them in any possible way. He spent the next eight or so years fulfilling that resolve in a personal way with periodic donations, a process that eventually led, in 2009, to the inaugural Shaggy & Friends Make A Difference Foundation mega-event, the concert on the lawns of Jamaica House.
