In terms of releases, 2015 was not a prolific one for dancehall artiste Mavado. He plans to change that in 2016.
The 34-year-old, who spends much of his time in the United States, plans to release a number of songs in the first quarter of 2016.
They include the self-produced “Tattoo” and “Mak 90” for his Mansions Records, “True” for Justus Arison’s JA Productions and “So Bazzle,” produced by Trevor ‘Baby G’ James.
“Wi waiting on the right fi put dem out. Wi waan start things fresh in 2016,” he told Splash.
“My League,” produced by Good Good Productions, was Mavado’s lone hit for 2015. He hopes to release his first album in seven years next year. His previous was Mr Brooks…A Better Tomorrow, which yielded the hit song “On The Rock,” produced by James.
Mavado is signed to We The Best Music Group, a Miami-based company owned by producer/disc jockey DJ Khaled, one of the most influential names in hip hop.
Through that link, he has done a number of collaborations with Akon, Busta Rhymes and Jay-Z, strengthening his base in the hip-hop market.
Hardcore songs like “On The Rock” and “Delilah” gave Mavado a following among hip-hop fans and caught the attention of kingpins like Jay Z who sampled On The Rock.
last evening, Mavado performed at League Weekend, a two-day dancehall/soca event at Amazura Nightclub in Queens, New York. Check out clip below:
Other artistes on the line-up include Vershon, I-Octane, Bunji Garlin and Fay-Ann Lyons.
