Kingston, Jamaica: Digicel, is once again making a lead way in Jamaica as they support the efforts to lower the fuel cost for Jamaica and support the international Earth Hour cause.
Digicel in its continued efforts to support conservation and environmental activities has announced its participation in this year’s recognition of Earth Hour on Saturday March 26, 2011, between 8:30pm and 9:30pm
Digicel’s Facilities Management and Emergency Services, Donovan Betancourt noted that the company takes the business of the protection and conservation of the environment very seriously. One of the company’s flagship stores – Anbell on Knutsford Boulevard electronic screens will also be powered off during Earth Hour.
In a recent interview conducted by Jacqueline Burrell-Clarke he has been quoted as saying Digicel is delighted to be a part of this initiative – in which 126 other countries around the world will be participating. We have implemented several strategies in our business to take a ‘greener’ and more responsible approach to the protection of the environment in which we live.”
It must be noted that Digicel is currently constructing their headquarters in Downtown Kingston, and it will be one the most environmentally friendly buildings in Jamaica and the Caribbean. The building will contain ground-breaking conservation devices such as solar panels, sensor taps, wind turbines and others that are all geared at energy conservation.
The digicel representative also mentioned that the company’s corporate offices in New Kingston will also be a part of powering off during Earth Hour. As such, Digicel will be unplugging all non-essential devices and equipment and turning off lights on non-essential floors, while power capacity will be limited in other areas of the operation.
