Heineken Green Synergy quarter final round ends on a high

The Heineken Green Synergy quarter final round ended last week with the last quarter-final match up which had DJ Cide going up against DJ Shine.

Prior to the contest, DJ Jigga was announced as the winner of the 3rd quarter finals in which he had gone up against DJ Khemist. DJ Jigga now joins DJ Rohan and DJ Diamond in the semi-finals of the competition.

At the weekly TV segment which was taped before a live studio audience and shown at the new time 9:30 pm on CVM TV last Friday, Cide and Shine battled away in what turned out to be a tight contest.

DJ Cide, playing first in the five-minute segment, dedicated his set to his friend Carlton who he said passed away recently.

He started off on a high note playing some remixes on a hip hop rhythm which had the studio audience rocking.

Cide played some hard hitting songs from heavyweights Movado and Vybz Kartel, along with some hot tracks from T-Pain. Overall, he did an entertaining set.

DJ Shine in his first segment started off similarly playing some remixes on a hip hop rhythm but generated more excitement with his selections. Especially when he ‘dropped’ some Vybz Kartel dub plates which had DJ Cide’s name in them.

The judges’ panel this round had dancehall artiste D’Angel as the celebrity guest judge, who worked along with resident judges Collin Hinds and Kurt Riley.

Commenting on the first segment, Collin said he wasn’t impressed by the deejays and that they didn’t display skills such as scratching, and mixing in their transition.

D’ Angel said that their selection didn’t coordinate. Kurt Riley said that Cide took more time to find his tunes and Shine took advantage of this.

The tune-for-tune segment saw both deejays coming out full blast. DJ Cide put to good use some old ‘clash tune’ including the very popular sound clash song, A Lot A Sound A Get Dust Out Tonight. DJ Shine again drew for dub plates courtesy of Vybz Kartel.

It was a ding dong battle between the two and in the end it was a very close call.

The radio segment on FAME FM was pushed to Saturday instead of the regular Friday date, due to the passing of tropical storm Gustav.

Both deejays did creditably well playing music across the genres. They played from hip hop, to dancehall. DJ Cide scored big time with a Konshens dub plate to the song Winner while DJ Shine once again popped off some Vybz Kartel dub plates. Both were however guilty of not maintaining a consistent high vibes throughout their set.

To help in deciding who makes the last semi-final spot, you can vote for Cide by texting the number 1 to 444-6935 or 444-MYDJ or for DJ Shine text the number 13 to 444-6935 or 444 MYDJ. Voting ends at 12 noon on Wednesday.

The first semi-finals takes centre stage this week in what is anticipated to be an exciting showdown.
