D’Angel won the Female Singjay of the Year award during the Music Industry Award ceremony held on Tuesday in Kingston, as she solidifies her place as one of the most exciting female acts in the business today.
“I feel honoured to have been chosen and thank my fans for their undying support. I will continue to put out good music that represents women and the dancehall in a positive way,” the singjay, who just announced her divorce from fellow entertainer Beenie Man, said in a release.
In recent weeks, she has released popular songs such as BaddestAngel and her breakout hit, Break Free on the ‘Life’ rhythm for Good Good Productions. The Break Free single has been dominating FM radio since its release, and the advance buzz on the song has been so incredible that D’Angel will be shooting a video, this Sunday, at 11 Lindsay Crescent, St Andrew. The shoot begins at 7 a.m.
“All the media is invited, it will be a wonderful shoot because I am using the amazing director, Mykal Cushnie, so you know it will be fabulous,” she said in the release.
Word on the street is that D’Angel has also recorded a new single, is asking for cooler heads to prevail in the ongoing lyrical battle between Beenie Man and Bounty Killer. That single is saucily titled, Good Good.
A confident D’Angel gave a memorable performance during Ted ‘Mr. Universe’ Brown’s birthday bash in Grange Hill, Westmoreland lastSaturday night. Closing the show after emphatic performances by Khago and Baby Tash, she delivered a slew of hits, Downtown Girl,Baby Daddy, Stronger and Break Free. The birthday boy, Mr Universe, also went onstage during her performance. D’Angel flirted with him, much to the amusement of the crowd.
“I had a really great time partying with the people of Grange Hill, and I was surprised that they sang Break Free word for word, that is why I know they are anticipating the video,” she said.
