Today, July 15, is the birthday of reggae/dancehall veteran Buju Banton.

Born Mark Anthony Myrie, Buju Banton is a Jamaican dancehall and reggae musician with several hits over the years including “Destiny,” “Hills and Valleys,” “Murderer,” “Untold Stories,” “Driver” and many more.

His 2010 album Before the Dawn won Best Reggae Album at the 53rd annual Grammy Awards.

The Grammy-winning singer is serving a 10-year sentence for convictions on cocaine conspiracy and trafficking charges stemming from a 2009 arrest. He was convicted in 2011 following a sting operation.

The singer has maintained his innocence.
