The party that has social media websites buzzing, Retweet, has announced that the planned treasure hunt for an iPad2 has been called off. Instead, the event organisers will be putting it up for grabs at the event when it is held on July 9 at the Boardwalk beach.

The organisers site a shortage of manpower to complete the treasure hunt in a way that will “please everyone, and not just people in Kingston”.

“We have a huge following in Montego Bay, for example, and we are currently not able to include people outside of Kingston in a treasure hunt. We will certainly be looking to do it properly and in a more fulsome way when we have Retweet again,” said Brandon Allwood, a promoter of the event.

Allwood said that he was not sure what persons would have to do just yet to win the iPad2, but assured that it would be something social media related and something interesting.

“Certainly we can’t just raffle it off. We will be doing something very relevant and directed to social media activity. That is our goal afterall, for Jamaicans to become more and more involved in the space online that allows us to be social and allows us to be friends,” he said.

The Apple iPad2 is one of the most sophisticated and sought after devices in the world. With millions of units sold the world over, it is said that the Apple revolutionised the tablet PC industry with the gadget.

“When we were thinking of a prize to offer, we knew that we had to giveaway something that allowed the winner to be even more involved in social media. Something that would put the internet and all its tools right at their fingertips, and that’s how we decided on the iPad2,” Allwood shared.

“The only rules are – get your ticket to Retweet when they go on sale this week, come out to Boardwalk Beach, listen to some great music, drink some rum and be active on social media.”

Retweet is Jamaica’s first public social media party, and will take place on July 9 at the Boardwalk Beach in Portmore. The drink inclusive event will run from 4:00pm to 12:00midnight and ladies pay $1000 for presold tickets and $1500 at the gate while men pay $1500 presale and $2000 at the gate. Tickets will be available starting today at Genus Pharmacy in Portmore Plaza, P!NG in the Pulse Complex, and LIME Lifestyle Stores in Portmore, Sovereign Centre and on Half-Way-Tree Road.
