Party Review: Extatic Fridays - Lollipop

With very few options lending themselves with the possibility of enjoyment, most of us had to choose between May Daze or Extatic Fridays. The success of Extatic over the years got the better of me, and with friend in tow, The Pantry in New Kingston was the place to be.

Now, yuh woulda tink seh the FREENESS offered for entrance to ladies before twelve would have drawn more of the femmes out (caw everybody know she we Jamaicans love freeness!). Apparently that catch didn’t work. In fact, with only a few minutes left until midnight, the venue was rather sparse. That was to be expected, however, as the night’s biggest competitor was only a stone’s throw away from the venue, with blaring music, enough to catch any and everyone’s attention and lure them to that spot. Needless to say upon entering, I was greeted by crowd (or lack thereof) that was widely scattered and just milling around, no dancing, no movements, no nothing.

Promoters ought to be commended on the lollipop entrance promised, and the free flow and easy availability of liquor all night. Eventually, persons made their way in and by 1A.M, there were enough persons to be found to deem the event a success. Music was flowing from the likes of Richie Ras and Coppershot, with a little bit of something for everyone; soca (and that is where the vibes began), hip hop, dancing tune, some nice gun tune to rail up for, and of course enough bubbling tune to make all those who wanted to bruk out, bruk out. A particular group of individuals made their way to the centre of the dancefloor, and have fun they did, walking out inna the video light and all. Of everything delivered, the early nineties came towards the end, which in itself was a good thing ‘cause it brought back the vibes lost by a slew of gun tunes playing just before. Good comeback.

All, in all, it was a nice likkle ting. Enough room to dance and breath, enough liquor to enjoy yourself, and good music pumping all night. Next time though, them need fi provide FOOD! People like me hungry belly….but that is next year ting :)
