It is now official. Partying and vibes are akin to Twisted Spiritz. The all-inclusive event, staged retro style on the Palisadoes Go-Kart Strip on Saturday, was a blast.
The venue was set up in a trendy fashion with a central bar catering to the patrons’ selective drinking habits. Other bars, which also served up an abundance of alcohol, littered the venue. The lighting was first class, barring a set in the parking area that shone ‘blinding’ lights at approaching patrons.
Foundation
When THE STAR team arrived at the venue at minutes to midnight, there was only a handful of patrons on the inside. The Renaissance selectors were building the foundation for the party and the Tropical Rhythm girls kept the ‘early birds’ refreshed.
The selectors, for the most part, acknowledged the night’s theme ‘Go Retro’; however, there were times when they ’stepped out of the box’ and still managed to please the audience.
Prolific
DJ Rush of Code Red was the most prolific of the selectors. He skilfully mixed retro music from different genres and the crowd loved him for it. The women moved liberally to the Thong Song before coordinating on the Macarena. Kirk Franklin’s Stomp fuelled the vibes and not even Vanilla Ice’s Ice Baby could cool the tempo. The patrons roared when DJ Rush brought the party to Another Level with Bounty Killer and Baby Cham; however, it was Buju Banton’s Boom Bye Bye that caused pandemonium.
Nemesis took over the turntables and immediately demonstrated their intention. They started out a strong set with a few selections from Bob Marley which the crowd sang along to. They then changed gear, twisting the mind of the patrons with Sizzla’s Nah Apologise, and Shabba’s Love Punnany Bad before delving into Mavado’s I’m So Special. The energy inside of the venue at this time was reaching boiling point, as the patrons continued to ‘roll in’ in their numbers despite the fact that it was after 2 a.m.
Musical spirit
The selectors from Bloodline also left their mark on the party with several selections from Bounty Killer, Beenie Man, Mavado and Vybz Kartel. Their set drifted far from the retro theme, but from the reaction of the patrons, one could tell that they did not mind at all.
The musical spirit and the alcoholic spirits continued to flow freely even when THE STAR team left the venue at 3:45 a.m. Renaissance had just started their second stint and the patrons were going wild. As the news team left, there were still persons looking to get in.
