The first Daydreams party for 2008 took place last Saturday at Chukka Beach, St Ann’s Bay, and with the likes of Richie Ras, Kurt Riley, ZJ Liquid and Renaissance behind the turntables, it was a blast.
Wright Image Entertainment, promoters of the popular party series, went all out to ensure that the ultra all-inclusive beach party lived up to the high reputation it has built over the years. The menu boasted some delicacies as well as some traditional Jamaican food.
The bar was well stocked with beer, energy drinks, and lots of amenities to create whatever unique drink mixes one desired.
Despite all of this, the partying never really started until well into the evening. Advertised to begin at 12 noon and end at 7 p.m. the partying never really gained momentum until about 4 p.m. Kurt Riley was the man behind the music at that time and, although lots of patrons were still strolling into the venue, he managed to seize their attention.
He later introduced soca music and was joined on-stage by Oscar B who tried to whip the crowd into a dancing frenzy, however it was the dancehall songs that got the biggest ‘forwards’. Tony Matterhorn’s Dutty Wine, mixed with Vegas’ Hot Wuk ensured that the females loosened up and soon Sean Paul had them Burning.
The breeze blowing in from the sea didn’t do much to cool the temperature after Richie Ras took over selecting duties. Beenie Man’s Hum Hum and Elephant Man’s Gully Creeper were a few of the selections he unleashed.
When ZJ Liquid positioned himself behind the turntables a sense of anticipation ripped through the crowd and he did not disappoint. He had them ‘clicking their fingers’ and skilfully used Assassin to ask “a coulda wha duh dem guy deh?”
A dancing fever hit the venue and he had the girls ‘jiggling their assets’ courtesy of Beenie Man, and used Busy to instruct others to ‘wine pon di edge’.'There was no rock in sight, however the patrons sang harmoniously to Mavado’s I’m On the Rock.
Renaissance took over the party at 7 p.m. and steered it to a climactic ending. The party, which started out calmly, ended on a high note and even the shuttle service back to Richmond Estate was entertaining.
