Patrons were sweet with soca madness at Cotton Candy at the last Bacchanal Fridays held at the Mas Camp Village.
Mas Camp was decked out with flair and patrons were greeted with complimentary cotton candy and a kaleidoscope of colours. With a minibar and stage in the centre and persons carrying huge bacchanal flags around the venue, the vibe was high with ZJ Liquid on the turntables.
Surrounded by Ocean Spray girls wearing skimpy blue and white outfits, Liquid blazed the soca vibe with Destra’s Max It Up and other high-energy soca tunes.
A foam pit was conveniently positioned in front of the DJ and there a few patrons danced up a storm. A bevy of lovely ladies dancing was a notable treat for the men as one stage had female dancers in silver suits dancing while the Kingston Beer girls danced up a storm on the counter of the bar.
As Liquid teased the crowd to put their flags in the air, hands went up across the venue and the patrons continued jumping and having a good time. Liquid teased with a touch of dancehall as Vegas’s Hot Wuk had the men grinding on the women as the bumpers met the sky.
Unfortunately, by 11:30 pm, Liquid left the stage and Sparkles Disco took over but never managed to create the same high-energy vibe throughout the night. Persons formed conga lines, dancing together and marching across the venue. Three ‘Smirnoff Ice’ girls then took to the centre stage as they attempted to move along to the music. A number of patrons stood distracted, watching the ladies perform some ‘creative’ dance moves but hardly ever to the rhythm.
After a long set on stage, they exited to return later in the night as some patrons merely shook their heads at the girls’ antics.
Sparkles Disco played a number of new soca hits, some of which got the crowd going crazy like Machel Montano’s Congo Man. The road march song for 2008 by Fayan Lyons, Hold It - Get On, had the women holding their positions and ‘wukking’ up at the appropriate time while songs from Destra saw the men on the floor and the women on top in various ’sex positions’.
Patrons at Cotton Candy were ripe with excitement as the women made some daring wining moves on the men and some men, by the expressions on their faces seemed to be in soca heaven. Two women got bumper to bumper to a soca version of Brick and Lace’s Love Is Wicked.
While there were moments of high energy and persons being hoisted in the air, some of the new soca songs were not hitting the right spot, causing a few patrons to just stand around instead of wining up a storm.
About 1:30 a.m., patrons began to slowly file out as the DJ suddenly urged them to look in the air where a man was gliding over the venue in circles with a huge Ocean Spray shoot. The daredevil circled the venue right till the end at 2 a.m. While some patrons wanted more high-energy vibes, there were those who obviously enjoyed themselves, leaving the venue sweaty and worked up.
