In terms of excitement, Saturday night at the Appleton Treasure Isle (ATI) weekend parties did not live up to the previous nights.
MIA and Rhythm and Booze , both ATI parties, were the two featured events on Saturday, with MIA being held at Risky Business and Rhythm and Booze being held at Waves, both in Negril.
It was a possibility that after all the excitement of the day party, Xxxtreme Wet N Wild, that patrons were simply too tired to leave their hotels.
The STAR team passed through MIA first, which was scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. But, at 10 p.m., the venue had only a few persons milling around inside, many of whom were waiting for the food to be served.
Better vibe
The food aspect of MIA was the most disappointing of the ATI parties, all of which were food and drink inclusive. At minutes to midnight, soup was just being served and a flock of persons swarmed the serving area to partake. Shortly after, food was served but in very small quantities, which only served to upset the patrons.
An all white party, MIA was promoted, during the day, as the place to be on Saturday night. However, it took a long time for patrons to get there and, when they did, their visit was short-lived as they soon left for the neighbouring Rhythm and Booze.
Patrons moved between the two parties, seemingly trying to figure out where the vibes were. Undoubtedly, it was Rhythm and Booze that had the better vibe that night as persons, decked out in the signature white MIA attire, littered the Rhythm and Booze venue.
After 2 a.m. Waves had a fairly large crowd as the music switched from dancehall to more off-beat songs such as Madonna’s Like A Virgin. The patrons seemed to enjoy it as they danced to the oldies.
As the music moved into the rock domain, a chorus of boos rang out from the men as Katy Perry’s same-sex ode, I Kissed A Girl, came on. The women cheered for the song to be played, however.
The vibe only got better as Munga Honourable and Chino satisfied the rapt audience with a brief performance. Patrons partied ’till early morning, determined to take in all they had paid for on the Negril weekend.
