“Sidra” born Tasha Gooden, this multi- talented and highly motivated Jamaican singer, actress and song writer grew up making a joyful noise and all those who heard it always thought that it was good. The beautiful, Sagittarian singer did this recently at the village café one of Kingston’s popular clubs, many who heard her declared, “Yes! She is really good. She is hot”.

On the same show Sidra performed her song ‘Hey Dickie’, a record that should feature self proclaimed king of dancehall, Beenie Man. Recently she released her first record “Losing Control” which illustrates that she is indeed a versatile vocalist, her sound is a fusion of Reggae, R&B and jazz. With this unique and captivating sound Sidra’s style reflects the significance and love she has for music which is influenced by Reggae, Gospel, R&B, Jazz and Blues.
She appreciates a wide range of singers like Bob Marley, Lauryn Hill, Anita Baker, Grace Thrillers, Beres Hammond, Marcia Griffiths, Ella Fitzgerald and the list goes on. Sidra has also worked with a number of well known artistes and producers. These include Beres Hammond, Vybz Kartel and Beenie Man.
She has done work with studios like Down Sound Records, 357 Records, harmony house and Kingston 6 Recording Studios, all located in Jamaica’s capital Kingston. Sidra was born on December 15th, 1979 and grew up in the valley of St. Andrew’s, Boone Hall and St. Catherine’s Waterford in Portmore, where she performed on many stage shows.
Life was not easy, she grew up with her father and a younger sister, with the absence of her mother and was forced to become a responsible and independent young lady at a very tender age. She had to take care of herself and her younger sister.
“When I had no one to talk to I was always writing and singing as a means of expressing myself, I often found peace and comfort this way”, she pointed out. While her father tried to make ends meet to take care of Sidra and her sister she tried to stay focus in high school as she strongly believed that academic achievement is a great foundation. She found it important to excel in school so that she could get a good job to take care of her father, sister and herself. But at no point did Sidra lose sight of her dream to become a singer. Sidra graduated from the popular girl school the Queens High.
There she was a member of a singing group that would perform at impromptu concerts that took place during break and lunch periods. She was also regarded as the ‘drama queen’ as she would always be entertaining her class with whatever songs, stories, poems or plays she wrote. Sidra wrote her first song ‘All You Haters’ at age 14 which she plans to use as one of the songs for her first album.
She would often lead the entire school singing in morning devotions. From drama classes to music classes Sidra was a natural and in 1995 she joined the Ashe Performing Group. This organization groomed some of Jamaica’s most talented singers, actors and dancers, including actress/singer Sherene Anderson. Sidra was also a member of the centre stage work shop that includes actors like Oliver Samuel and Glen Campbell.

Her acting took a high when she got rave reviews for her lead role in the play “night work’, which was produced and directed by well known Jamaican playwright Hugh King. Her acting skills were also featured in the local film “Goat Head”, directed by Paul Bucknor. Though having a passion for acting Tash decided to focus more on her music career and plans to do acting at a later stage of her life. Sidra has also done extremely well at many singing competitions.
In 2002 she won “Artist for the Month” in a competition put on by “The Star”, Jamaica ’s best read evening tabloid. , about her life and thoughts Sidra’s says,
“I find myself thinking of love and most important god. I also think of a finding my soul mate who I can start a family with, one with whom I can enjoy the simple things in life”.
She also said “, I’ve used all my life lessons and stepped out courageously into the music world with the hope that I will make a positive impact and become one of the most phenomenal reggae singer of my generation Jamaica has ever produced”.
Sidra started to gain more notice in the entertainment scene recently due to a Breathtaking performance @ Jordu Live @ Seventh Avenue Plaza in March opening for Tessannne Chyn after blowing away the competition in an audition for the opening spot two weeks earlier. The performance was captured by RE TV and aired on numerous occasions in April.
Sidra has performed At Magna Road Show in Mandeville in May,Capelton’s Album Launch in June, Digicel Customer Care Appreciation last week and is booked for Portmore Teen Jam July 25,A St.Mary Mi come from Aug 5,Cambridge Fest (Westmoreland) Aug 6.
She paid a visit to Vybz Fm on the Western Side of the Island and did a live interview with Lady Mystery.
The single being promoted presently is “Tell Me” produced by Movie Star Paul Records,which speaks to the current wave of crime against Children, which is plaguing our society. A Video was made for the single,Directed by Tyehimba Kafele and Nichole Williams and Edited by Robin Chyn Who was also the cameraman @ the shoot.
The Video was released on Hype TV and fans can vote for the video by texting the name of the song and artist to 444 2453.Accomplished Record Producer Niney the Observer is currently working on projects with Sidra and is preparing to Launch his Brand New Studio Facility in the very near future.
