Lil Wayne Speaks On Working With Jay-Z and First Week Sales

Lil Wayne has a million copies under his belt and is slated to start his Tha Carter III tour this week. One of the album’s standout tracks is Weezy’s collaboration with Jay-Z, “Mr. Carter.” Wayne told us last week that Hov was just a phone call away. Weezy co-managers G. Roberson and Kyambo “Hip Hop” Joshua used to be execs at Roc-A-Fella records.

“Shout-out to my [other manger] Cortez, my man G. My man Hip Hop,” Wayne said. “I asked them. I said, ‘That’s y’all big homie. I want a record.’ And I sent him that one. I thought that was perfect. I already had three verses to it and everything. I sent it, and the rest is history.”

Earthy empress Etana got it right when she dubbed her newly released debut album The Strong One.

For, while the title aptly speaks to the twenty-something’s moniker which means ’strong’ in Swahili, it also says loads about her musical prowess.

Born Shauna McKenzie, the singer was introduced to the local stage as a background vocalist for Richie Spice before taking her 5th Element affiliation a step further in 2005 when she recorded the breakout single Wrong Address (track 15).

The police have refused to grant the promoters of Finish Line a permit because violent clashes they say may develop between headliners Mavado and Vybz Kartel or their supporters.

Finish Line: The Summer Edition, was scheduled for today at the Palisadoes Go-Kart Track. However, Superintendent Assan Thompson of the Kingston Eastern Police Division said he had not granted permission for the event to be held in the division.

Singer Bar-Bee, who was yesterday (Thursday) released from hospital, says as soon as she gets some rest, she will be returning to Jamaica.

The singer spoke with THE STAR in a telephone interview shortly after her release from a private hospital in New York.

“I got out of the hospital this morning (Friday), but they (doctors) were really concerned about the hit to my head on the windshield - but I’m okay now and happy to be out. The hardest part was sitting still in the hospital, I even tried to check myself out twice and they had to start watching me, it was crazy.”

Georgia rapper Young Jeezy was arrested early this morning in Atlanta for driving under the influence and speeding.

According to TMZ, the rapper (real name Jay Jenkins) was stopped for speeding and was arrested on a slew of charges, including DUI, reckless driving, speeding, having no tags or proof of insurance and driving with an open container.
