Variety the order of ‘Musique’

‘Musique’s subtitle, ‘Back in Blaque’, suggested a certain uniformity in the required dress code for the party at The Pantry.

And quite a few of those who lined up in orderly fashion at 1:30 a.m. Saturday outside the black cloth which opened out on to the party area were dressed accordingly, in full or partial black.

But on the inside, where the music was present but not overpowering, variety was the order of the night from the turntables. The patrons, mostly youngsters crammed into the first section, down a few steps, as well as the second, at the end of a walkway, with quite a few on either side of the passage.

Joe Budden

If all goes as planned, rapper Joe Budden will release his first album in five years, “Padded Room,” in the spring.

“Padded Room” will be the follow-up to 2003’s “Joe Budden,” which launched the hit “Pump It Up.” Three editions of his “Mood Muzik” mixtape series have followed, but Budden tells Billboard.com that he’s looking forward to another proper album release.

“It’s complete,” Budden says of “Padded Room,” which will be released by Amalgam Digital. “It basically will be in the same vein as ‘Mood Muzik,’ just a little more structure and the mood will probably be a little lighter. I’m definitely pleased with the direction that it’s going.”

Days after his Arizona arrest, the stage offered an outlet to a furious Lil’ Wayne, who verbally tore into his entourage at a show date in Virginia before reuniting with former Cash Money rapper Young Buck the next night in Tennessee.

An Arizona court date delayed Weezy’s appearance in Richmond, VA, Friday (Jan. 25) but once the rapper finally arrived onstage, he made his frustrations clear by ripping into members of his entourage.

“I just flew in about ten minutes ago–I just had to deal with a whole lot of bullsh*t,” Wayne addressed the crowd. “I want you to know that none of you up in this building have nothing to do with this attitude I got right now. I’m not the most happiest man right now.”

Flo Rida

Flo Rida’s “Low” continues to reign supreme on the Billboard Hot 100 for a fifth week, and also inches into the top 10 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs for the first time with a 12-10 climb. It is also No. 1 on the Rhythmic Airplay and Hot Rap Songs charts.

“Low” isn’t really being challenged by the tracks at Nos. 2 and 3 on the Hot 100; Alicia Keys’ “No One” and Timbaland’s “Apologize” featuring OneRepublic remain in those positions for a third consecutive week.

But there’s a new contender for the crown in the form of Chris Brown’s “With You,” which rises 6-4 and is both the fastest growing track at digital outlets and at radio. The song sold 100,000 downloads, prompting a 9-2 jump on Hot Digital Songs.
